Objective rationality foundations for (dynamic) α-MEU

چکیده

We show how incorporating Gilboa et al.'s (2010) notion of objective rationality into the α-MEU model choice under ambiguity can overcome several challenges faced by baseline without rationality. The decision-maker (DM) has a subjectively rational preference ≿∧, which captures complete ranking over acts DM expresses when forced to make choice; in addition, we endow with (possibly incomplete) objectively ≿⁎, rankings deems uncontroversial. Under founded model, ≿∧ an representation and ≿⁎ unanimity à la Bewley (2002), where both representations feature same utility index set beliefs. While axiomatic foundations are still not fully understood, provide simple characterization its counterpart. Moreover, contrast parameters uniquely identified. Finally, for prior-by-prior Bayesian updating while that, standard rules be ill-defined.

Foundations for Dynamic Loads

Design of foundations in earthquake prone areas needs special considerations. Shallow foundations may experience a reduction in bearing capacity and increase in settlement and tilt due to seismic loading. The reduction in bearing capacity depends on the nature and type of soil and ground acceleration parameters. In the case of piles, the soil-pile behavior under earthquake loading is generally ...

Objective Rationality and Uncertainty Averse Preferences

As in Gilboa, Maccheroni, Marinacci, and Schmeidler [12], we consider a decision maker characterized by two binary relations: % and %^. The …rst binary relation is a Bewley preference. It models the rankings for which the decision maker is sure. The second binary relation is an uncertainty averse preference, as de…ned by Cerreia-Vioglio, Maccheroni, Marinacci, and Montrucchio [4]. It models the...

Structural Rationality in Dynamic Games

The analysis of dynamic games hinges on assumptions about players’ actions and beliefs at information sets that are not actually reached during game play, and that players themselves do not expect to reach. However, it is not obvious how to elicit intended actions and conditional beliefs at such information sets. Hence, key concepts such as sequential rationality, backward induction, and forwar...

Rationality and the Foundations of Positive Political Theory

In this paper, we discuss and debunk the four most common critiques of the rational choice research program (which we prefer to call Positive Political Theory) by explaining and advocating its foundations: the rationality assumption, component analysis (abstraction), strategic behavior, and theory building, in turn. We argue that the rationality assumption and component analysis, properly under...

Towards objective Bayesian foundations with fuzzy events

We present an axiomatic approach to conditional measures of fuzzy events which is inspired by the Dupré–Tipler argument for Bayesianism. Unlike there or in the older and related Cox argument, although we are able to derive additive probabilities other non-additive solutions exist. Our motivation is to show that Bayesian foundational arguments are based on Boolean logic but they do not require i...
